I took today to relax. It was a day away from my busy schedule. A day to regroup. Benjy had the day off, too! That means lots of coffee and PJ's on until 11 or so. Fantastic!
Well, ... not far into the morning I saw a craft that I wanted to do with the kids. The morning tune changed from there. I became determined. From another blog, I found the 'how-tos' on making homemade snow globes. Easy! Simple! Recycled materials! Low cost! I loved the idea. I just needed some liquid glycerin. Really, just a drop to make the glitter fall in the water slower. No problem! Hobby Lobby must carry it!!!! And this... began... the search that has yet to end! I hopped from store to store trying to find glycerin, using up gas and most of the day. My simple snow globes suddenly became horribly complex. AND, I wanted specific figurines to go in them! I, again, searched for them from store to store. But... I didn't find any that were just right (or that fit in a salsa jar). I was still determined. Once home, I took an ornament and super glue and began to glue away. I was going to make that globe if it wore me out! Alexander agreed with me somewhere during all of this that he was 'bent' on making a snow 'glow' , too! (I love 4 year old talk) Well, I ended up gluing my fingers together (yes, with super glue) and failing miserably. It was then time to give up... we had a party to attend.
So, seeing my defeat and a simple solution, Benjy got out the hot glue gun, rummaged around in our very full play room, and he made this AMAZING snow globe.
Yes, it is Papa's "Christmas on the Farm" globe. That's a tractor at the bottom.
I spent at least 3 hours looking for the perfect pieces and he made one in 3 minutes. (Ahem)
Love it! Know you are not alone in the "I must get it exactly as I see it in my mind's eye" quest....the best of us go there!

I love how the snow globes turned out. What was used in place of the liquid glycerin? Glad you guys had a great time at the house.

Hi Yvonne! We just used plain, old water. I'm very curious at what the glycerin does when added to the water. But, the globe is just perfect the way it is. We are going to make another today for cousin Jakey!
